1. Who we are

Island Rank Canada ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Michael Perks, an SEO consultant serving small businesses on Vancouver Island. Our office is located at 715 Wharncliffe Rd, Duncan, BC V9L 2K2, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information collected through our website, islandrank.ca (the "Site").

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

2. Information we collect

We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it to us. This happens in two places:

Contact form — when you submit an inquiry, we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), business name, website address, and message.

Free mini SEO audit tool — when you use the free audit tool at islandrank.ca/free-seo-audit/, we collect your business name, city, and website address. If you optionally provide your email address, we also collect that so we can email you your audit results and, with your knowledge, send a small number of follow-up emails (see Section 3). Providing your email is entirely optional — the audit runs without it.

For security and spam-prevention purposes, our server also automatically records your IP address and the date and time of your submission. We do not collect any other personal information automatically, and we do not require you to create an account.

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or third-party tracking tools. We do not sell or share your information for marketing purposes.

3. How we use your information

We use the information you submit solely to:

  • Respond to your inquiry and communicate with you about an SEO audit;
  • Deliver your free audit results by email, if you requested this;
  • Send a small number of follow-up emails (maximum two, spaced over seven days) with practical SEO tips relevant to your audit results — only if you provided your email address via the audit tool. Every follow-up email includes a one-click unsubscribe link;
  • Prepare and deliver any services you purchase;
  • Protect the Site and our systems from spam and abuse (this is the purpose of the IP address and timestamp); and
  • Meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.

We will not use your information for any unrelated purpose without first obtaining your consent.

4. Consent

By submitting the contact form, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Policy. By providing your email address in the free audit tool, you consent to receiving your audit results and the follow-up emails described in Section 3. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any follow-up email, or by contacting us directly (see Section 12). You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we are unable to provide certain services to you.

5. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

Your contact-form and audit-tool submissions are handled by our website hosting and email provider strictly for the purpose of operating the Site and delivering messages to us. We may disclose personal information if required to do so by law, court order, or a lawful request by a government authority, or where necessary to protect our legal rights.

6. How long we keep your information

We retain the personal information you submit only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry, provide our services, and meet legal or business record-keeping requirements. Email addresses collected via the free audit tool are retained for up to 30 days, after which they are deleted from our system. The IP address and timestamp used for spam prevention are retained only briefly and then discarded. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to securely delete or destroy it.

7. How we protect your information

Our Site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. We apply reasonable physical, organizational, and technical safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification. However, no method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Cookies and tracking

This Site does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking technologies. Your browser may store standard technical data (such as font files loaded from Google Fonts) needed to display the Site correctly, but we do not use this to track or identify you.

9. Your rights

Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA, you have the right to:

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it;
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Withdraw your consent to our use of your information; and
  • Make a complaint about how we have handled your personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

10. Children's privacy

Our Site and services are intended for businesses and are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
