SEO audit services for
Vancouver Island businesses

Plain-English SEO audits for Vancouver Island small businesses — from Michael Perks, a Duncan, BC specialist who knows the Island. Understand where you stand, what's holding you back, and exactly what to fix first.

What an Island Rank SEO audit includes

Each audit is tailored to the business, but these are the core areas reviewed in every engagement.

  • Technical SEO Review

Crawl errors, indexation issues, page speed, mobile usability, structured data, canonical tags, and site architecture problems that may be limiting how Google sees your site.

  • On-Page SEO Review

Title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, keyword targeting, internal linking, and content quality across your key pages — assessed for local relevance and search intent.

  • Local SEO Analysis

How well your site supports visibility in local search, including location signals, proximity relevance, and geographic targeting for your Vancouver Island service areas.

  • Google Business Profile Review

Completeness, category selection, photo presence, review signals, Q&A, posts, and other GBP factors that influence your ranking in Google's local map pack.

  • Citation Consistency Check

Review of your NAP (name, address, phone) data across key directories and local data aggregators — inconsistencies here actively undermine local trust signals.

  • Competitor Comparison

A look at what local competitors ranking above you are doing differently — giving you a realistic benchmark and a clearer sense of what it will actually take to compete.

  • Service-Page & Location-Page Review

Are your key service pages strong enough to rank? Are you missing location pages for communities you serve? These gaps are common and often easy to fix.

  • Internal Linking Analysis

How well your pages are connected to each other — missed internal links leave SEO equity on the table and make it harder for Google to understand your site's structure.

  • Prioritized Action Plan

A ranked list of what to fix, what to build, and what to ignore — written in plain English so you or your developer can act on it immediately without needing to decode agency jargon.

Technical SEO, local SEO, and a clear action plan

Every audit is organized around three outcomes that directly affect how local customers find your business.

Technical SEO — is Google actually seeing your site?

Spot the crawl, indexation, speed, structure, and page-level issues that may be limiting how Google finds and ranks your site — before anything else can work.

  • Crawlability and indexation
  • Core Web Vitals and page speed
  • Mobile usability
  • Structured data and schema — why it matters
  • Canonical and redirect issues
  • Site architecture

Local SEO — are local customers finding you?

Review how well your site and online presence support visibility in local search across your Vancouver Island target communities — where your customers are actually searching.

  • Google Business Profile audit
  • NAP citation consistency
  • Local keyword relevance
  • Service and location pages
  • Competitor benchmarking
  • Local link signals

Prioritized action plan — so you know exactly what to fix first

Get clear, ranked priorities in plain English so you know what matters now, what can wait, and what to ignore entirely — a plan you can hand to a developer or use yourself.

  • Prioritized fix list
  • Quick wins vs longer-term items
  • Developer-ready task descriptions
  • Content opportunities identified
  • 30-day follow-up to work through it
  • No spreadsheet dumps

Most types of Vancouver Island business benefit from an audit

If customers search for what you do before they call you, an audit will find what's stopping them from finding you first.

Trades & Contractors

Plumbers, electricians, roofers, HVAC, landscapers — high-intent search, strong conversion when visible.

Hospitality & Accommodation

Inns, B&Bs, vacation rentals, restaurants, cafés — tourism-driven search from visitors who don't know the area.

Health & Wellness

Physiotherapy, chiropractic, dental, optometry, massage — patients search by location and trust rankings heavily.

Tourism & Outdoor Recreation

Guiding, kayaking, whale watching, tours — strong seasonal search, fierce competition from aggregators.

Retail & Local Shops

Boutiques, hardware, garden centres, specialty shops — "near me" and "open now" searches drive foot traffic.

Professional Services

Accountants, lawyers, mortgage brokers, consultants — high-value clients who research thoroughly before calling.

Honest direction. Plain-English reporting. Personal support.

This service is designed for business owners who want real answers — not bloated agency packages, rotating account managers, or vague promises.

You work directly with Michael Perks

You work with one local specialist — Michael Perks, based in Duncan, BC — from first call to final report. Not handed off between departments or dealt with by junior staff.

No jargon, no fluff

Every finding is written in plain English with the "why" explained clearly — so you can make confident decisions without needing an SEO dictionary.

Focused on Vancouver Island

Built specifically for Island businesses and local search realities — not a generic national template applied to a local market.

30 days of follow-up included

After delivery, you have 30 days to ask questions, get clarification, and work through next steps — so you're never left guessing what to do with the report.

"Show you where you stand, explain what matters, and give you a plan that fits the real world."
— Michael Perks, Island Rank Canada

Whether you serve one town or multiple communities across Vancouver Island, the goal is the same: help more of the right local customers find and trust your business. That starts with knowing exactly where you stand right now.

How an Island Rank audit works

Four straightforward steps — from first conversation to a clear plan you can act on.

Discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your website, your goals, and which areas of Vancouver Island you're trying to reach.

Hands-on audit

A thorough review of your site's technical health, local signals, content gaps, Google Business Profile, and citation consistency.

Plain-English report

A prioritized action plan delivered in clear language — practical, actionable, and written for business owners, not SEO specialists.

30-day support

Ask questions, dig into specifics, and work through implementation with follow-up support so you're never left guessing after delivery.

You're talking to the person who actually does the audit

I'm Michael Perks. I run Island Rank Canada out of Duncan, BC, and every audit I take on is done personally — by me, from start to finish. No subcontractors. No template-filled junior reports. No situation where you book a call and get handed to someone who's never heard of your business.

I started this because I kept seeing small businesses on the Island get burned by SEO agencies that delivered generic reports, charged retainers for work that didn't match the local market, and moved on. Vancouver Island is not a generic market. The search dynamics here are different — the population density, the seasonal swings, the community loyalty, the fact that a business in Campbell River is competing differently than one in Victoria.

An audit from me is a close read of your specific situation. I look at what's actually happening with your visibility, why it's happening, and what you can realistically do about it — in order of impact. Then I stay available for 30 days to answer questions as you work through it.

If you want to know more about how I approach this work, the how it works page walks through it step by step.

What people usually ask before booking

What does the audit actually cover?

Nine areas: technical SEO (crawl issues, page speed, structured data), on-page content, local SEO signals, Google Business Profile, NAP citation consistency, competitor comparison, service and location page review, internal linking, and a prioritised plain-English action plan. See the full Local Spotlight breakdown or the Multi-Location Review page for what each package includes.

How long does it take to get my report?

Most audits are delivered within 5–10 business days of the initial discovery call, depending on the size and complexity of your business. You'll always know roughly where things stand — I'm reachable during the process if anything comes up.

Do I need to be based in a specific city to work with you?

No. I serve businesses across all of Vancouver Island — from Victoria up through Nanaimo, Courtenay, and Campbell River. Everything is done remotely. Geography doesn't change the quality of the audit.

What's the difference between the Local Spotlight and Multi-Location Review?

The Local Spotlight ($850) is for a single-location business focused on one primary area. The Multi-Location Review ($1,400) covers businesses that serve or operate across multiple communities — separate location pages, service area strategy, and how to appear across a wider geography without content duplication penalties.

Will the report tell me what to fix, or just what's wrong?

Both. The report is structured as a prioritised action plan — what to fix first, why it matters, and roughly what's involved. It's not a raw data dump. The goal is that you or whoever helps you with your website can actually use it.

Do you fix the issues, or just report on them?

The audit itself is a diagnostic — the report, the findings, and 30 days of follow-up support. Implementation is up to you (or your web person). That said, I'm available during the follow-up period to answer questions, clarify anything in the report, and help you think through decisions. If you want to discuss implementation support, ask during the discovery call.
